Welcome to my online retreat - the eBothy. I started it off as a pure HTML site and some clunky graphics but the lack of interactivity soon made it clear I needed something else. I also originally used "dreambooks" for the eBothy book but after it went bust I had a look around for another one, only to find tons of free guestbooks but all of them draped in annoying adverts. Well, they were free. So, I decided to take the site down the PHP road and designed everything from the ground up.

Being a software engineer by profession, it wasn't difficult and the result is a few rooms in the eBothy where people can interact with the site. Here are a few of the interactive areas and what applications I used or designed myself:

The Gaelic proverbs page is entirely in PHP and XML, mainly as an experiment as it would have been much much easier to code it in straight PHP but I thought my brain would relish the challenge of getting PHP to work with XML. If you want to use any of these features on your own site, drop me a line and I'll give you the PHP source. The eBothy book and scratchpad can easily be dumped inside a Dreamweaver template or any other HTML page. I'm also available for website design and backend server programming if you fancy a site of your own. Only one proviso - I don't touch Windows servers or ASP pages! Enjoy the eBothy, Stravaiger
